First Street Update: Sidewalks and Driveways Concrete Work, So Step Carefully

Editor's Note: Patch will begin running the City of Los Altos' weekly "First Street Update," to keep you apprised of the work being done on First Street, much as it did last year during the extensive work.

This past week, the remainder of concrete curb and gutter was poured from 127 First Street up to the project boundary at Shasta Street.  The driveway and sidewalk in front of Plaza North has also been poured up to Bumble.

Sidewalks and driveways will continue to be poured today and through next week.  We anticipate opening the sidewalk from Plaza North up to Bumble for pedestrian access next week.

The remainder of the northeast side of First Street has been graded and prepped for concrete to be poured.  The concrete work on this side of the street is expected to be complete by the end of next week (6/21).

Safeway has gathered the necessary permits to begin demolition tomorrow, Saturday, June 15.  Safeway will close one lane of First Street on Saturday to ensure safety during the demolition of the front side of the building. No additional lane closures are anticipated as part of the demolition work, as the building will be taken down from the front side to the back.

Demolition is expected to be completed by July 1.  The sidewalk in front of Safeway will be closed to pedestrians to ensure proper safety levels beginning June 15.
