Engineer-Artist Selected for Solo Art Show in Los Altos Hills

Foothill Community College is featuring an artist who is also an engineer for a solo show in celebration of March’s National Women's History Month, recognizing women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Laura McHugh of Half Moon Bay was selected for the month-long show, which features a retrospective of work McHugh has created over the past six years as an emerging artist, including four six-foot tall panels and two 20-foot long scrolls that McHugh created during her residency program for women at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design.

During this three-week intensive residency, McHugh’s work gained acclaim as a study of space and place.

Other works in the show will include prints, collage/mixed media and assemblage/3D works from her series “Flesh of My Flesh” and “love*desire*relationship,” which were both featured in the Half Moon Bay SOMA shows in 2010 and 2013.

In addition, McHugh runs an artist group in Half Moon Bay called Bad Art Night, where artists meet every other Friday to try new things in their work in a low-risk / can't-fail environment. She has also been on the organizing committees for the Doctors Without Borders fundraiser, Made on the Coast that is part of the Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival and Colony of Coastside Artists Open Studios. Currently, McHugh is starting the Half Moon Bay Artist Residency program in 2013 that will sponsor artists who will create work that interacts with the Half Moon Bay community.
