Grab & Go Kids Planner for March 2-6

Youth theater, a summer camp fair and a model car and plane extravaganza are just three of our kids' picks for Los Altos this week!

The kids are back in school, but still you want to come up with things you can do together. Let Patch help you out.

We've done the research, we've done your homework and we're ready to give you our suggestions for ways you can get up and go with your family this week and heading into the weekend.

Where/When: , 500 Castro St., Mountain View; Saturday 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, 1 and 6:30 p.m.

Why Go: To support Peninsula Youth Theater and see a fantastic performance of Annie Get Your Gun. Another plus, you will probably be able to sing along (at least in your head) with a lot of the songs written by the great Irving Berlin.  Here's just a few —There's No Business Like Show Business, Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly, They Say It's Wonderful and Anything You Can Do.

Where/When: , 1 N. San Antonio Road; Friday, 7:30-10 p.m.

Why Go: OK, this really isn't for you, the parent, except to make sure that if you have a seventh- or eighth-grader in Los Altos schools to make sure your child is at the dance. It's going to be a great party for the teens.  The theme is Birthday Celebration, so let your student dress up and bring their dancing shoes! LAYC Dances are open to all seventh- and eighth-graders living or attending school within Los Altos.

Where/When: Borders Books, 456 University Ave., Palo Alto; Saturday 2 p.m.

Why Go: To celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss! This event is for kids ages 6-10. It's all about reading, which is why it's called Read Across America. And it's the birthday of Dr. Seuss!

Pricing: Free

Where/When: Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: This is a premier model show and a contest. There will be model trains, planes, cars and more. There will be more than 100 modelers and 400 entries. An eyeful of models to look at and lots of "make and take" for kids and raffles for all!

Pricing:  $5-$10

Where/When:  Westgate Mall, 1600 Saratoga Ave., San Jose; Saturday, 10 am. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: What's a child to do this summer? Go to summer camp, of course. At least part of the time. This Sunday is your chance and your child's chance to learn about more than 80 different summer camp offerings, at one time and under one roof!
