Grab & Go Kids Planner: Earth Day, Easter Eggs, and Even a Cooking Class

Downtown Los Altos invites kids to celebrate Easter and the next day, Los Altos Hills throws a big Earth Day celebration. Sandwich in a movie, a cooking class...and if you are a high school senior, perhaps a trip to UC Santa Cruz.

Where/When: Downtown Los Altos, Main St & State St., Saturday, April 16, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Why Go:  Imagine 4,000 eggs hidden downtown and then imagine countless kids on the loose. Get ready for drama.  At 10:00 a.m. the Police Chief will ride up and down Main and State Street with his siren on indicating that it's time for the hunt to begin. Five eggs per child, so no one is left out.  The egg hunt isn't everything. Arts and crafts, games, cookies, a face painter and more.

Why go:  It's Los Altos and Los Altos Hills' annual Earth Day celebration with lots going on. Besides shopping, booths and environmental stands, there will be a  “Live Wild Cats” education presentation by Leopard’s Etc. Presentations of the wild cats are scheduled for 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.  No dogs, please. And in honor of Earth Day, instead of driving over, walk, bike or carpool.

Where/When: , 4800 El Camino Real, Saturday, 4:00p.m. to 6:00p.m.

Why Go:  Have your kids begin their Easter celebration early by learning how to make some of the traditional Easter foods from other countries. Some of what's on the menu includings foods from Russia, Sweden and Greece. They will learn to make it, and then get to eat it at the end of the class. The class is meant for kids age 4 to 14.

Why Go:  In what could be a busy weekend in Los Altos,  sitting down and taking in a movie could be a good way to bring Saturday to a close. And an appropriate topic to sandwich in between Easter and Earth Day. The  movie,"What's on Your Plate?" follows 11-year-old Sadie and Safiyah as they interview farmers, school officials, chefs and others.
