Get Out, Los Altos! With Gardens, Theater and a Holistic Health Fair

Hear from international journalists, visit native gardens, see a play, go to a holistic health fair and hear from an author. All this, and more, in and around Los Altos.

Why Go: This "factionalized" story gives us something to think about in the hustle and bustle of the lives we lead today. The three men in question—Warren G. Harding, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison—did indeed go camping together at least one time. Imagine the conversation they might have had—if they really did get lost.

Where/When: Nancy Hertert Memorial Native Plant Demonstration Garden, 22221 McClellan Rd., Cupertino, Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Consider this starting point your kick-off garden. See how you can make the transition beautifully. There are 70 gardens in all throughout Santa Clara County, including many close by here in town, in MountainView and in Palo Alto.  Most are in private homes, and once you sign up for the tour, you will get the information about where to go. This is a self-guided tour of home gardens landscaped with California native plants.

Pricing: Free, but registration required at gngt.org before 3 p.m. Sunday, or until the tour reaches capacity.

Where/When: , 1 N San Antonio Rd., Thursday, 7:30 p.m. 

Why Go: Stanford's year-long program for international journalists bring a distinguished group from India, Haiti, Mozambique, South Africa, Peru, Panama, Malawi, Kenya and elsewhere, each with different backgrounds and different insights. Hear from a panel of  Stanford's Knight Fellows at this public meeting, where they will talk about journalism today and where it might be going tomorrow.

Where/When: 2960 N. Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View, (Michaels at Shoreline), Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Jane Smiley is a prolific writer and a Pulitzer-Prize-winning one, as well. Now you can hear from her without going far from home. The Los Altos/Mountain View Branch of the American Association of University Women will host Jane Smiley for its annual Authors Luncheon.

Why Go: This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about holistic health and psychic arts and immerse yourself for the day. There are free presentations on a variety of topics, and you can get a chance for a chair massage or some consultations, all at no cost to you! If you always wanted to find out something about holistic health issues and psychic healing, today is your chance to do so.
