Get Out, Los Altos!

Here are our suggestions for five of the coolest things to do in and around Los Altos this weekend, from Wesla Whitfield to dancing for heart health.

 It's Thursday, which means the weekend is approaching, and as always, you are wondering what you might do. We've got a five suggestions for you that we hope you'll enjoy. There's a lot going on this weekend, so "GET OUT" and enjoy yourself!

Where/When: , 97 Hillview Ave., Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Wesla Whitfield is a nationally known jazz-cabaret singer, who will perform cabaret songs from the Great American Songbook in her one-night only appearance. A reception with Whitfield and other performers will take place in the theater after the show.

Where/When: , Lohman Theater, 12345 S. El Monte Rd., Los Altos Hills, Thursday,Friday, Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: This is the musical about what we all do—work! It is based on the best-selling book of interviews by Studs Terkel. We hear, in their own words, from 26 very different American workers—each expressing doubts, dreams, struggles and a search for identify beyond their job titles. 

Pricing: $26 general, $20 students and seniors (65 and over); $13 OwlCard Holders and Foothill staff

Where/When: Filoli House, 88 Canada Rd., Woodside, Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Why Go: Because it will be beautiful. "Daffodil daydreams," is an annual display of nearly a million daffodils and three days of talks, tours, demonstrations and hands-on activities to celebrate Filoli House's 35th year. Imagine the scene—that many daffodils at one time. It will be breathtaking!

TURANDOT: THE OPERA

Where/When: Lucie Stern Theater, 1305 Middlefield Rd., Palo Alto, Friday and Sunday, 8 p.m.

Why Go:  West Bay Opera's Peninsula premiere of Giacomo Puccini's grand last opera: Turandot. An unknown prince defies death to conquer the love of the imperial princess. Catch a glimpse of the Forbidden City and enjoy Puccini's sublime music, presented by a stellar cast, with full chorus and orchestra.

Where/When: , 4916 El Camino Real, Saturday, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Why Go: What a great combination: Dancing and heart health, courtesy of the Women's Hospital of El Camino Hospital. There will be free heart-health screenings, heart-health lectures and information, dancing demonstrations and more! There will even be an “Ask the Doc” booth that will feature El Camino Hospital physicians from all medical and surgical specialties who will try to answer your questions.
