Get Out, Los Altos! Community, Theater and Authors

Community building, community caring, a play, an alternative healing arts class or an authors' luncheon are Los Altos Patch's recommendations for you when you Get Out this week.

Where/When: Crowne Plaza Hotel,  4290 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, Thursday, 6:00 p.m.

Why Go: To be present when the recognition is given out by the Los Altos Community Foundation of the individuals and organizations being celebrated at the annual event, now in its 8th year.

Why Go: Free dinner and information fair to talk about what you can do to volunteer for Change the World Weekend in May. Also see a presentation about the recent trip to Nicaragua made by some church members.

Where/When:  Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts,  500 Castro St., Mountain View; Thursday and Friday, 8:00 p.m., Saturday, 2:00p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Sunday, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  

Why Go:  It's a murder mystery and a love story that wasn't meant to be. And it takes a look at a part of our recent past that sometimes get buried. It is the story of a Japanese-American veteran charged in the death of a rival. This is a regional premiere, based on  the book by David Guterson, and  adapted for the stage by Kevin McKeon. Contains mature language.

Where/When: 188 S 4th St, San Jose (Fourth Street Summit Center) Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

 Why Go: This is an authors salon and a chance to hear first-hand from a wide range of writers, including  Robert Hirst, Simon Winchester, Barry Eisler, Bo Caldwell, and Patricia Lopes Don. Keith Raffel moderates.

Where/When:  , 111 Main St,  Thursday, 7:00 p.m. o 9:00 p.m.

Why Go: Plenty has been said about the way feelings and beliefs can impact health. It's wired into our biology, and understanding this wiring is key to comprehending the healing tools at our disposal. That's what you will learn about in this Thursday night session where you will also be given some tools to see what you can do with your inner self that will help you feel better about all you do.
