Your Time: YWCA Luncheon, Tuesday Tea, St. Francis Football and More

Opportunities include hearing former White House Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers, enjoying afternoon tea with a discussion of Bali, discussing Steve Jobs, catching the MVLA speaker series, or watching St. Francis Football.

Where/When: 5001 Great America Pkwy, Santa Clara, CA. Tuesday, 11 a.m. 

Why Go: The keynote speaker for the event is Dee Dee Myers, a former White House Press Secretary from 1993 to 1994, a political analyst and commentator, and contributing editor for Vanity Fair. She is also the author of Why Women Should Rule the World. Networking social starts 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon from noon-1:30 p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit YWCA Silicon Valley. Why Go: The presentation from Asian Art Museum Docent Yvonne Chang allows guests to experience Bali's culture, beliefs and practices. Examine the beautiful artwork and learn about context in which the unique pieces were created.

Why Go: The local book club will set their sights on how the worlds of business, technology, and science interact in our world and how these forces have changed our planet. The first book on the docket is called icon: Steve Jobs, The Greatest Second ACT in the History of Business by Jeffery S. Young.  Come and join us to discuss the life and impact of Steve Jobs with fellow Los Altos residents this week.

Why Go: The MVLA School Speaker Series presents "From Princess to Pop-Tarts: What the New Culture of Girlhood Means for Girls and the Grown-Ups Who Care About Them". Peggy Orenstein, the author of the New York Times Best Seller, Cinderella Ate My Daughter, will examine several issues girls are confronting and suggest ways for kids, teens and parents to combat such obstacles.

Where/When: 5000 Mitty Way, San Jose, CA. Friday, 7 p.m. 

Why Go: The 2011 schedule doesn't get any easier for the St. Francis High School football team. After a 31-13 loss to Serra High in it's West Catholic Athletic League opener last weekend, St. Francis faces another stiff test this Friday night on the road. The Lancers will travel to play WCAL rival Archbishop Mitty Prep in San Jose. Mitty rallied to tie St. Ignatius last weekend 22-22 and is a stout 2-1-1 overall, including a gritty 27-21 victory over defending CIF state champion Palo Alto High earlier this fall. St. Francis is  1-3 overall, heading into the teeth of it's league schedule this month.
