Los Altos Group Hosts 3 Thought-Provoking Films in Free Summer Series

Hidden Villa, a local educational non-profit organization based in Los Altos Hills, is hosting the Duveneck Forum Film Series -- with three summertime films spotlighting local and international change-makers.

Tonight, Sunday, at 5 p.m., Soul of Justice  will be showing.

As the first black attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the Kennedy Justice Department in the 1960’s, Thelton Henderson, fresh out of law school, confronted the intricate challenges of being a black man in authority within the largely all-white world of the American legal system. With rare and powerful archival footage Soul of Justice offers viewers an intimate window into the world of the young lawyer as he grapples with tough choices.

On July 13, at 5 p.m., The Singing Revolution will be screened with a community forum to follow.

The Singing Revolution offers footage of how Estonians used cultural songs and tradition as political tools to free themselves from decades of Soviet occupation. While violence and bloodshed was the unfortunate end result in other occupied nations of the USSR, the revolutionary songs of the Estonians anchored their struggle for freedom, which was ultimately accomplished without the loss of a single life.

Cesar's Last Fast will be shown on Aug. 24.

Josephine and Frank Duveneck opened their home to the United Farm Workers movement in the 1960s and provided a safe space for Cesar Chavez to organize California’s first farm workers strike.

Cesar’s Last Fast is a multi-platform feature documentary film about the private sacrifice and spiritual conviction behind Cesar Chavez’s struggle for the humane treatment of America’s farm workers, and the impact Chavez’s legacy has on today’s generation of organizers fighting for farm worker rights.

Admission is free, though space is limited. Registration required.
