S.J. Bike Party Rolls Through south Los Altos Friday Night

The party on wheels, sometimes described as the Uncritical Mass, starts in Santa Clara and rolls down Foothill Expressway and Grant Road, then El Camino Real, for a grand loop.

With an eye to the weather, San Jose Bike Party takes its rolling fun through south Los Altos Friday night.

The group, self described as "half-political party, half-street party" organizes monthly rides that lately attracted 2,000 to 4,000 riders on a given night, according to its website, organized by around 100-200 volunteers. It observes the rules of the road, and has a cleanup detail so that no trash is left in its wake.

The ride starts in Santa Clara and picks up riders who come from feeder routes. The Los Altos portion of Friday night's ride will start at the Cupertino/Sunnyvale/Los Altos border on Homestead Road, as riders come across the pedestrian-bike bridge next to Homestead High School, down Homestead Road and onto Foothill Expressway. It will turn up Grant Road through Los Altos and Mountain View, up to El Camino Real and south to Santa Clara again. Here's the route, courtesy of SJ Bike Party.
