Earthquake Recap: Eight Small Tremors Shake Santa Clara County

Los Altos rocked a 1.7 this past week.

Eight tiny quakes shoot Santa Clara County over the last week, with the largest one hitting six miles from Morgan Hill and San Martin and 10 miles from Gilroy at 1:46 p.m., Tuesday.

The South County area saw three additional quakes, but none came close to topping Tuesday's 2.2 tremor, according to the U.S. Geological Survey website.

A tremor registering in at 1.2 on the Richter scale hit Gilroy Saturday morning, and another quake registering at 1.2 sent ripples through the Morgan Hill area at 10:29 p.m. the night before.

On Sunday, April 15, a 1.0 temblor struck 10 miles north of Morgan Hill at 10:45 a.m.

The closest quake to hit near Campbell, Los Gatos and Cupertino came from Los Altos, which had a whopping 1.7 tremor hit Thursday at 4:32 p.m. A 1.4 quake struck three miles south of Los Altos and four miles west of Cupertino that same day at 9:52 a.m.

On Tuesday, two quakes registering in at 1.3 hit three miles from both Los Altos and Cupertino and occurred just a few hours apart.
