Apricot Annie's Update: Trees Are Out, Stump Grinding Begins, Excavation Continues

Here's what happening on First Street the week of Aug. 22-26, and what took place in the week we just had.

We've said it before: Los Altos Patch is an fan.

Each week, Annie's Update, more prosaically named "First Street Construction Update," lands in email boxes all over town. This service began when First Street construction ramped up several weeks ago.

Since navigating downtown is a bit like navigating your way through a apricot orchard littered with overripe cots these days (no offense intended, Annie), we thought the more you know about what's happening the better.

Each week we provide an abridged version of the update. To access the full report you can:

This week workers continued laying storm drain pipe, excavating dirt below street level, creating concrete forms for curbs and gutters, and removing trees.

And there was good news for Safeway shoppers. The store's parking lot entrance directly off of State Street was reopened to pedestrians and cars.

Some of the next week's tasks include:

  • Grinding out stumps
  • Continuing excavation of below grade dirt for street sub-base
  • Continuing form creation for curbs and gutters
  • Pouring concrete for new curbs and gutters
  • More excavation of a new storm drain trench
  • Laying more storm drain pipe, working from State Street towards Parking Plaza North

Traffic update for next week:

  • Temporary lane closure on First Street between State and Parking Plaza North will continue with flaggers during work hours

Annie is showing up around town, and not just on signs directing traffic. She visited the weekly Kiwanis Club meeting last week, and is available for visiting other groups. For more information call 650-947-2889.
