300 Thanksgiving Meals Needed—Who Can Help?

West Valley Community Services needs our community's help to serve its clients Thanksgiving meals. A scheduled partnership fell through, now the nonprofit is 'scrambling' to find partners to fill the gap.

Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for the things we have, and West Valley Community Services is certainly thankful for the generous partnerships it enjoys year-round, especially during the holiday season.

But sometimes partnerships run into potholes, and this is one of those times when WVCS has hit a bump in the road and could use some extra thankful donors to step up.

The bump came just this week when the partner WVCS was relying on to supply Thanksgiving take-home lunches to clients “fell through,” according to Jacqueline De Guzman, director of community resources.

Now they are scrambling to find a partner, or partners, to provide 300 meals for their clients.

“We are now scrambling to find a couple of community partners that can help us put together 300 Thanksgiving bag lunches that our clients can take home with them after the movie,” De Guzman says.

They’ve got other changes for their clients this Thanksgiving, too, but at least they are of a less scrambling kind.

In years past WVCS and its clients enjoyed a holiday meal and bowling event at Bowlmor, but a change in Bowlmor management created a detour for WVCS who found locally-owned and operated BlueLight Cinemas to step up as host for the holiday event.

“BlueLight Cinemas has very generously stepped up to host our Thanksgiving event at their cinemas and is 'saving' Thanksgiving for our clients. They are opening up their movie theater to screen three movies for 300 of our clients,” says De Guzman.

If you or anyone you know can help WVCS with its Thanksgiving Day needs, please contact Jacqueline de Guzman directly at jacquelined@wvcommunityservices.org, or 408-255-8033, ext. 305.
