We've listed eight places where you can get a pizza in Los Altos. What's your choice for a great pie?

  Ah, pizza. Thin crust, thick crust, deep dish, pizza is the ubiquitous dish in American culture, whether we're gathering after a sports event or having an easy night without cooking. In a family-oriented communities like Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, perhaps even more so, given its popularity with kids and adults alike. Day Spas in Los Altos: Bliss and Orchid Bloom are the Readers' Choice

Patch's weekly poll showed that day spas in very different parts of Los Altos are worthy of our readers' choice.

  When it comes to pampering, readers showed their preferences for day spas that spanned Los Altos' length, choosing one downtown, one at Rancho Shopping Center, and in the runner-up category, one in south Los Altos. The top two vote-getters, among eight spas in the Patch's Readers' Choice poll, were downtown and at Rancho. Do you like to come to the village? There's a day spa for you. Do you prefer the laid-back style of Rancho? Or farther south? That's covered, too. Bliss Beauty Center, at Rancho Shopping Center, received 40 percent of the votes, along with Orchid Bloom Spa, on 107 Main Street, which also received 40 percent. Readers Choice: Brian's Restaurant on Mothers Day

The Rancho favorite won our readers' poll for Mothers Day brunch. Plan accordingly.

  With Mothers Day around the corner, readers weighed in our poll an chose Brian's Restaurant as the place bring Mom for brunch. Los Altos has a fair number of restaurants to choose from when it comes to brunch-type places that can make a special occasion seem just a little nicer. We put them to readers to tell us their favorites. Brian's received 47 percent of the votes, followed by Marie Callender's with 23 percent. Bumble and Rick's Cafe received 14 percent of the votes, each.  Now, make your reservation so that you aren't too late.

Caltrain Adding 6 Trains

Board approves electrification agreement with high-speed rail.

With one-time funding sources for Caltrain expected to run out by the end of fiscal year 2013, the Caltrain board of directors Thursday considered a preliminary budget that would add trains to its current weekday schedule, and approved an agreement with the California High-Speed Rail Authority to provide $1.5 billion to electrify the corridor. Caltrain Deputy CEO Gigi Harrington said that average weekday ridership has increased for 20 straight months to reach historic highs, up 12 percent from this time last year. Some trains at peak commute hours have more passengers than seats, Harrington said. The fiscal year 2012-2013 preliminary budget includes a $375,000 investment in six additional weekday trains that will help relieve overcrowding …

Open Houses in Los Altos & Los Altos Hills, May 5-6, 2012

Fifteen homes among the 51 on view this weekend were placed on the market this week. There are a few homes that have seen price reductions.

  There are 51 houses open in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills this weekend. Fifteen of them were placed on the market in the past week.  They range from a $495,000 two-bedroom, 1.5 bath condominium at 1070 Mercedes Avenue, a quiet cul-de-sac in north Los Altos, to a six-bedroom, six-bath home at 12400 Melody Lane in Los Altos Hills listed at $6,390,000. There are a few homes that have seen price reductions this week, including 1448 Fowler and 999 Loraine Avenue. PHOTOS: Downtown Farmers' Market Opens for the Season

Can summer be far away if the Farmers' Market has opened?

  To great fanfare, the Downtown Los Altos Farmers Market opened Thursday. And the word on the street was "Cherries." "I had some while I was walking back to my car and they were awesome," said Gayle Hayden, director of the California Farmers Markets Association, which runs the Los Altos Farmers market. They are coming out of Linden (near Stockton) and Lodi. Vice-Mayor Jarrett Fishpaw pulled out the ceremonial giant scissors for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, with the assistance of several young helpers. Several new prepared food stalls were in abundance. Oaxacan Food, late of Oaxacan Kitchen that was sold in Palo Alto, Roli Roti chicken, among others were showing off their wares. 'Occupy' Pops Up in Whole Foods Los Altos

Noontime political theater urges shoppers to support small businesses and family farms, and eschew the corporate organic store leader from Texas.

  Members of Occupy San Jose staged a bit political theater for several minutes during the Tuesday lunch hour in the middle of Whole Foods Los Altos. Shouting "Mic check! Mic check!" Apricot Lane Boutique Celebrates Grand Opening

Downtown's newest fashion boutique held a grand opening celebration Saturday.

  Los Altos' newest retail store, Apricot Lane Boutique, celebrated its grand opening Saturday with champagne, treats from Nothing Bundt Cakes, and a whopping 25 percent discount for shoppers. The new store, which just opened its doors at 315 Main Street last month, sells vintage and contemporary clothing and fashion accessories. Naida Ergas, the store's marketing project manager, said the celebration was well-attended, and the store's staff couldn't be happier. "The turnout was great," she said. "We love the hospitality and welcoming we have received from the Los Altos residents. We look forward to more fun events."
