Re-absorb BCS Kids, Teachers, Offer Enrichment Programs

Connie Miller suggests blending the students, teachers and enrichment programs that Bullis is known for, all into LASD.

Editor's Note: On New Year's Day, Patch asked readers to contribute ideas, large and small, to helping to resolve the facilities issue regarding Bullis Charter School (BCS) and the Los Altos School District (LASD). It could be as simple as an approach, or a more fully thought-out plan.

We don't expect a magic bullet to appear, but who knows? The point was to start out the new year on a positive and constructive note, with members of our community thinking about solutions and a way forward.

What Los Altos School District child wouldn’t want those extra programs of enhanced language and other after school activities Bullis Charter School offers?

Why not re-absorb BCS students back into their respective neighborhood schools and offer the enrichment programs to all LASD (and former BCS) kids who want to pay the extra?

It would strengthen the enrichment programs, reduce all the extra cars on the road, give everyone more of a neighborhood school feel, put all kids on a level playing field and eliminate discord and put everyone on same page.

In addition, we need to acknowledge to Los Altos Hills residents we made a mistake by closing the original Bullis-Purissima School, apologize, and put in the district charter that the Hills will never be without a public school ever again.

Blend the excellent BCS staff in LASD.
