Get Ready: Best of Los Altos Series Launches Monday

Start thinking about your favorite establishiments in town. Vote in our "Best of" polls and watch for results each Friday.

Los Altos Patch on Monday will kick off its first-ever Best of Patch series.

Over the next 12 weeks, our readers will have a chance to vote for their favorite businesses and service providers in a number of fun categories.

Every week we'll post a poll and ask users to vote on their favorite and post a review on the business listing on its Los Altos Patch Places page. We'd love to hear your ideas, too, for "Best of" categories, such as salon, best restaurant, best place for a manicure, and so on.

Then, on Friday, check back for the results. Winning businesses will get a nifty Best of Patch certificate.

(Because our poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch.)

If you haven't seen reviews on Patch Places, go to http://losaltos.patch.com/places , or simply click "Places" in the navigation bar above.

Volunteer a certain number of hours at Friends of the Los Altos Library and you may be able to qualify for a free card. The library advocates managed to get that concession out of the JPA. Small comfort for those who remember a truly free library, but the Friends are a great group of people to meet.

What about "Best Wellness/Fitness", "Best Teen Hang-Out", "Best Park", "Best Cup of Coffee", "Best Kid-Friendly Place", "Best Shoe Store"?

Those are good ideas! We have a short list on tap but it's a rolling list open to suggestions. What do people think of "Best Sandwich," "Best Preschool," "Best Burrito," "Best Place to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day," "Best Place for Kids to Learn Martial Arts?"

there used to be a lot of different kinds of businesses in the village of los altos. i get the impression that the small cafes and specialty stores are trying to make los altos similar to carmel, for example. i am an old-timer but some businesses come and go. not that much changes over the years
