1. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE

Where/When: Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave, Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, Sunday, May 22, noon to 3 p.m.

Why Go: These are, as the Friends website says, "Don't Miss" events. People get up early to pounce on the good stuff. Professional book buyers come here. fiction, non-fiction. It's not just books. It's CDs, DVDs, puzzles and games that people value. People in the know bring their own boxes and bags. Prices start at 50 cents. Sunday is $5 bag day. Anything you can fit in the bag is yours.

2. LADIES FIRST AT LOYOLA CORNERS

Where/When: 963-985 Fremont Ave / May 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: and team up for a staggered day of women-focused fun in the back parking lot. gets started first, but starting at noon, Shawsu will offer free antioxidant scanning, functional movement screens, massages, Pilates demos, Rolfing and serve lunch from Tom's Depot. Bicycle Outfitters will also serve coffee and bagels beginning at 7:30 a.m. for those who sign up to get a ten percent discount and start out with a ride (50-, 25- and 10-milers). Plus there's a set of bicycle clinics (how to fix a flat, basic maintenance, and stretching), and a raffle for prizes.

Why Go: It's described as a day of healing, insight and fun and it very well may be. Firefly Willows is bringing together holistic health practicioners and psychic healers. You can try out intuititive massage, reflexology or acupuncture, have a tarot card reading or get some shamanic guidance and much, much more. The added bonus, of course, is the people you may meet.

4. VICTORIAN LIFE INSIDE OUT! CELEBRATING THE RENGSTORFF HOUSE RESTORATION (20 YEARS NOW)

Where/When: Rengstorff House and Shoreline Park, 3070 N. Shoreline Blvd., Mountain View/Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Find out who Henry Rengstorff was, celebrate it as the 20th anniversary of restoring his house, and use it as a great excuse to hang out by the water at Shoreline Park, where free goodies abound and a great deal: Silicon Shores (which runs the Aquatic Center and Café at Shoreline Park) will offer special all day access passes for kayak, canoe, pedalboat and rowboat rentals for $10/person, as well as pique celebrants’ appetites at Rengstorff House by providing German culinary treats from local producers.  The event, themed “Victorian Life: Inside OUT!” features events and exhibits put on by Victorian aficionados from all over California. These will include period antiques and collectibles, Victorian fashion, vintage cars, blacksmithing, National Civil War Association representatives, historical lectures, and an "Extreme House Restoration" exhibition.

Why Go: This is the 30th annual Herb Patnoe Memorial Jazz Festival Concert, with guest artist Bob Mintzer, who will play his arrangements of music by Count Basie and Herbie Hancock, including “April in Paris,” “One O’Clock Jump,” “Cute,” and “Speak Like a Child.,”  Also on the program will be jazz performances of some of his original works written for the big bands of Buddy Rich, Mel Lewis, and his own band. 

Pricing: $13 general admission, $10 students and seniors

Where/When: , 1628 W Campbell Ave. and throughout Downtown Campbell, Saturday, Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: This festival attracts big crowds so expect Historic Downtown Campbell to be packed. With good reason. The festival features more than 200 booths with arts, crafts, and more. Live entertainment throughout the weekend, as well as a focus on cajun and New Orleans Style Food. Enjoy!

Where/When: Little House, 800 Middle Ave, Menlo Park, Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Why Go: This is a conference for seniors and you will come out of this session knowning much more about what you need to do to age vitally and to age well. Little House is a major center for senior services in the Peninsula. Five nationally recognized experts will be on hand:  Keynote Speaker Dr. Eric Shapira, Dr. Walter Bortz, Dr. Moira Fordyce, Kathy Berra, and Laura Stec. And of course, there will be much, much more.

Pricing: $5 if you pre-register; $10 at the door; a $9 fixed price lunch will also be available ((soup, salad, bread, choice of turkey or salmon Caesar salad, and drink).
